Visit Hortulus
When Jon Kontz and his family took over Hortulus, they wanted to reintroduce the historic gardens as a community center for connecting with people and nature. My job was easy: Hortulus is so full of life and beauty, all I had to do was press record and nature did the rest! Post-production was little more involved. In order to do the scenery at Hortulus justice, I maxxed out the recording quality on my camera. This meant large file sizes and an advanced color grading workflow. Additionally, Hortulus wanted me to create a library of video content for their social media manager. I set them up with a Dropbox account where lightweight clips were carefully catalogued for them to create posts for Facebook and Instagram.

My favorite part
With such picturesque environments, it's hard not to make a beautiful video. I really enjoy all the visuals in this video—including the look of the interview—but what I love most is the ambient sound and sound effects and how they draw you into the picture. The music track also compliments the story and was foundation for the timing and pace of the edit.
Plan your visit to Hortulus
This video was part of a marketing campaign encouraging local families to come visit the attractions at Hortulus. Time is short when filming very little children but these kids did great and we captured a lot of adorable moments. It doesn't matter who the subject is, being patient and accommodating is part of being a freelancer.

My favorite part
There isn't a mediocre shot in this entire video thanks to the beauty of Hurtulus. But it's always bonus when you find a mirror to create layered depth in your frame. Especially when the mirror is surrounded by rustic wood, woven handbaskets and earthy pottery!
